IP3: Prescribing in Practice
Blended
27 Sep 2027
Course overview
IP3: Prescribing in Practice is a 15-credit Level 7 module that provides the opportunity to apply prescribing knowledge and clinical skills in supervised real-world practice.
You will undertake a minimum of 90 hours of patient-facing clinical experience under the supervision of an approved Designated Prescribing Practitioner (DPP). During the placement, you will manage a range of ocular conditions and develop your confidence and competence in making safe, evidence-based prescribing decisions.
You will maintain a clinical placement logbook documenting patient encounters, clinical reasoning, prescribing decisions and reflective learning. Your practice will be supported through feedback and supervision, enabling you to develop professional accountability, clinical judgement and effective multidisciplinary working.
The module brings together the knowledge and skills developed across the PG Cert IP and provides the opportunity to demonstrate achievement of the General Optical Council Independent Prescribing learning outcomes in clinical practice.
Successful completion of the module, alongside successful completion of the other programme requirements, enables you to apply for Independent Prescriber annotation on the General Optical Council register.
Assessment
