Course overview

Advance your clinical expertise and step into an extended scope of practice with the Clinical Radiographic Reporting pathway at the University of Hertfordshire. This specialist programme is designed for qualified radiographers seeking to develop enhanced and advanced clinical radiographic reporting practice, enabling you to play a pivotal role in modern diagnostic pathways.

Clinical modules are offered in musculoskeletal reporting and chest. Other specialist reporting areas may be taken via our independent study modules.  The programme is designed to enhance your current knowledge and understanding and give you opportunities to challenge and critically evaluate your professional practice. 

 

Professional Accreditation:

Clinical Radiographic Reporting programme is endorsed by the College of Radiographers. 

 

Who is it for? 

The course is suitable for radiographers who want to specialise in this area and are interested in advancing their existing skills or acquiring new ones. It is designed to meet your needs whether you are in full or part-time employment. 

 

Course Structure:

The course is flexible and modular allowing you to create a programme of study to meet your personal development and career aspirations. To attain a Master’s award, you need to complete 180 credits. There are also Post graduate Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate awards available. 

The rate and pace of study are up to you. You have up to 6 years to complete your master’s course. 

The Master’s degree consists of three elements: core (to include 1 compulsory module); research modules and optional modules (optional modules may comprise additional core modules or interprofessional modules). 

 

Award titles:

Depending on your plan of study you can obtain different award titles 

 

MSc Clinical Radiographic Reporting 

180 credits to include: 

  • The compulsory module Professional responsibilities in Clinical Radiographic Reporting (15 credits)
  • 45/60 credits from core modules (Clinical Radiographic Reporting: Chest and Image Recognition: Chest Radiography or Clinical radiographic reporting: Musculoskeletal and Musculoskeletal image interpretation). 
  • 60 credits of research modules. 

 

Postgraduate Diploma Clinical Radiographic Reporting 

120 credits to include: 

  • The compulsory module Professional responsibilities in Clinical Radiographic Reporting (15 credits), 
  • 45/60 credits from core modules (Clinical Radiographic Reporting: Chest and Image Recognition: Chest Radiography or Clinical radiographic reporting: Musculoskeletal and Musculoskeletal image interpretation). 

 

Postgraduate Certificate Musculo-skeletal Radiographic Reporting 

The following modules must be studied:

Funding

This programme is modular and the fees are payable per module. Some modules are subject to non-standard fees (e.g. ultrasound clinical modules). 

Fees will differ for students assessed as Overseas fee payers. Fee assessment decisions follow UKCISA (UK Council for International Student Affairs) guidance, which is based on UK law and government regulations. For NHS employees, the University works with NHS trusts, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and Community Education Provider Networks (CEPNs) across the East of England under the Sustainability and Transformation Plans and their Local Workforce Advisory Boards’ transformational frameworks. It is therefore worth checking with the CPD lead for your Trust as part or all of your fees may be covered.

Eligible students may be able to apply for a Postgraduate Student Loan. Please note that to access this funding, you must enrol on the full MSc programme; funding is not available for individual modules or interim awards (for example, a Postgraduate Diploma). Prerequisites

You will need to be registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) (or equivalent professional registration).

The normal entry requirements for the programme are:

An honours degree in Radiography and normally be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Candidates will normally have some relevant clinical practice experience subsequent to qualification.

Where appropriate, candidates require employment in, or access to an appropriate clinical site whilst enrolled on the programme. Students are responsible for securing an appropriate clinical placement.
