Course description/details
This 15 credit module is aimed at Health and Care professionals who are, or aspire to be, responsible for leading and developing teams as part of their clinical and professional role. Students will be facilitated to explore leadership practices within health and social care settings and consider the impact of their own leadership skills and attributes. Learning and teaching will normally integrate leadership theory, models, concepts and skills using both a reflective and evidence-based approach.
A variety of classroom-based strategies will be used, with a focus on experiential and problem-based learning, facilitating an interactive approach to learning.

Knowledge and understanding
- Critically examine leadership in Health and Social Care settings.
- Critically appraise a variety of contemporary leadership theories, models and concepts and evaluate their strengths, weaknesses and applicability at individual, organisational and complex system levels within Health and Social Care settings.
Intellectual, practical and transferable skills
- Critically reflect on the capabilities, values and preferences that underpin their own leadership practice, considering the implications for their professional development.
- Synthesise relevant aspects of contemporary leadership theory, models and concepts that will inform their future leadership practice.
