Course Details

This module is suitable for all healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with a cancer diagnosis.  Using an inquiry-based approach, students will gather a wide range of evidence and information to thoroughly explore the module topics. Through critical evaluation and analysis of the evidence base, they will consolidate their knowledge and understanding of the psychological conditions, methods of assessment and interventions of patients with cancer.

There is an exploration of communication skills for supporting patients in psychological distress and reflecting on the role of health care professionals in providing psychological support. Please note this module does not qualify students to counsel or provide psychological interventions; a key component of this module is understanding how to support patients within the limits of a professional scope of practice.

Learning is supported through electronic resources, and ongoing guidance and formative feedback from the module leader to foster knowledge, understanding and skills development to prepare students for successful assessment.
