Course overview

Course Description/Details

The Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) module focuses on developing practical skills and critical understanding of how digital technologies can enhance teaching and learning in healthcare education. The module explores key pedagogical approaches, including blended and online learning, and introduces emerging tools such as AI to support educational design.

Students engage in hands-on activities, including the creation of an e-portfolio, a 10-minute masterclass, and a reflective account, allowing them to apply theory to practice. The module emphasises student-centred learning, accessibility, and evidence-based approaches, preparing learners to design, deliver, and evaluate technology-supported education in their professional context.

Assessment details

The assessment for this module consists of three components:

  1. Development of an e-portfolio to document learning and professional development.
  2. Creation of a 10-minute masterclass using technology-enhanced learning approaches.
  3. A 1000 word written reflective account (using a recognised reflective model) critically evaluating the design, delivery, and impact of the masterclass.

The assessment is designed to integrate theory with practice, encouraging students to demonstrate both practical digital skills and critical reflection on teaching and learning.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be able to:

• Critically evaluate the role of technology in enhancing teaching and learning in healthcare education.
• Apply appropriate pedagogical principles to design technology-enhanced learning activities.
• Develop and deliver a short educational masterclass using digital tools.
• Demonstrate effective use of digital platforms to create an e-portfolio.
• Reflect critically on their own teaching practice and the use of technology to support learning.

“I found the use of AI tools eye-opening. It helped me understand both the opportunities and the limitations in a practical way.”

“The module was very relevant to my clinical role — I could immediately apply what I learned to my teaching practice.”

“The feedback was incredibly helpful and detailed, which really supported my development throughout the module.”
