Course Details/Description

Five Action Learning Sets to be spaced throughout the course dates above.


The course will comprise of 5 full days attendance, alongside structured support sessions throughout the course. All delivery will be online. Course content aligns with the requirements from Health Education England (now NHSE) to achieve Stage 2 FCP accreditation and to facilitate participants to undertake supervised practice in Primary Care.


Course content will include: Reflective practice, development of FCP skills and knowledge in practice, service evaluation and Quality Improvement Development. FCP1 and FCP2 are aimed at fully qualified, experienced and highly motivated practitioners who want to be leaders in the clinical field, working at an enhanced level of practice.


Applicants must be able to demonstrate & reconfirm at the start for FCP 2 that they have:

  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Normally a minimum of 3 years post registration (evidenced by CV).
  • Evidence of successful level 7 study.
  • Evidence of working in, or towards, a First Contact Practitioner (FCP) role on completion of study.
  • Confirmation of access to an appropriately qualified Clinical Supervisor.
  • Confirmation of 75 hours of clinical supervision scheduled in workplace.
  • At every stage, evidence of up to date statutory and mandatory training in their area of practice (evidenced by confirmation from employer).
  • Evidence (certificates to be supplied) of contemporaneous (within 6-12 months) completion of: - Eight e-learning modules (e-learning for healthcare, E-LfH) modules as stated in the roadmap.
  • Reconfirmation of the above statements will be completed through self-certification, prior to starting FCP 2.

Learning Outcomes


Module Aim

To apply and progress existing knowledge and understanding of the FCP role. To evidence capabilities required for an FCP role, whilst working alongside the multi professional healthcare team within Primary Care to provide high quality services.


Knowledge and Understanding

Demonstrate critical evaluation of service delivery to inform service improvement relevant to scope of practice. (Domain D).


Skills and Attributes

Demonstrate advanced and shared decision making and evaluate practitioners roles and personal and professional values in planning and implementing care provision in common and complex presentations relevant to the chosen areas of practice. (Domain A/C).
Demonstrate application of advanced clinical reasoning and safe and effective evidence enhanced practice in gathering, synthesising and appraising information from multiple sources, including physical examination and diagnostic investigations within a biopsychosocial framework, in the management of common and complex patients in an unpredictable environment presenting in first contact settings within scope of practice. (Domain B/C).
Demonstrate application of safe and effective person-centred care relevant to an FCP role, underpinned through advanced knowledge and understanding of a range of management approaches that are relevant to the scope of practice. (Domain A/C).
Critically engage in analytical thinking and reflection on the learning journey undertaken in the FCP role to inform future learning needs. (Domain D).


Who teaches the course

Teaching will be delivered by a variety of expert clinical professionals which may include GP's, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, First Contact Practitioners and multi-professional academic staff from the University.
