Course overview
This short course covers essential aspects of UAV operations, including pre-flight planning, in-flight management, and post-flight procedures. Students will learn about UK UAV regulations and airspace classifications and how they impact flight planning. They will acquire skills in airmanship, navigation, and operational planning for UAV missions, including emergency response protocols. The course also covers meteorology and foundational UAV performance to ensure safe and effective drone operation. Instruction is delivered through tutorials, workshops, and supervised UAV piloting sessions. Successful students will be able to apply their knowledge and practical skills to the use of UAVs in industry or academic research.
Enable students to operate Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) independently in accordance with Civil Aviation Authority regulations. Successful students will be able to plan and execute UAV operations safely and effectively within the requirements of the Open Category. They will also be able to apply their understanding of airspace, meteorology, airmanship, and UAV performance to make informed decisions and adapt to changing operational conditions.
