Course overview
The aims of this module are to enable students to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes required to be able to apply the mental health and other relevant legislation, codes of practice, guidance and policy in undertaking the role of an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), whilst demonstrating the competence requirements for AMHPs.
This module covers mental health and human rights legislation that deal with competing rights and needs; the need of a person to be assessed, protected and treated and the needs of the community when a person poses a risk to others. It will cover correct use and implementation of legislation, related codes of practice, and policy guidance essential in carrying out the AMHP role.
Who Teaches the course
The Programme Leader is an AMHP and is
involved in teaching on the course alongside other suitably qualified
professionals including AMHPs.
Other
university and visiting speakers are involved in course delivery including
people with lived experience and carers, mental health solicitor, psychiatrists
and other professionals with specialist knowledge and experience relevant to
the AMHP role.

£5,750.00
The price above is for the 60 credit programme and relates to self-funding students assessed as UK/ home students for fee purposes. Prices may differ for students that are assessed as EU/Overseas. Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of mental
health legislation and the related codes of practice and national and local policy
guidance by critically analysing information and applying it to practical
scenarios.
Critically evaluate knowledge and apply this to practice in order to demonstrate the AMHP competencies related to applied mental health practice.
