Course overview
This module enables health professionals with an interest in dermatology to develop their understanding and knowledge of the epidemiology, aetiology and pathophysiology of commonly occurring long term skin conditions.

Content:
For common chronic skin conditions, the following topics will be covered:
1. Epidemiology including prevalence and incidence
2. Genetic components of chronic skin conditions
3. Aetiology
4. Pathophysiology
Students are expected to be familiar with the principles of dermatology treatments. Acne, eczema and psoriasis are the key clinical conditions that will be considered but the module will cover a range of common skin conditions including nail and hair disorders, vitiligo and urticaria. Students will be expected to develop an understanding of the impact that skin disease has on individuals.
Study Route:
This module is available on the MSc Clinical Dermatology & the MSc Skin Lesion Management. It is suitable for practitioners with an interest in dermatological conditions & will be of interest to FY1-2, GPs, Dermatology Nurses, Advanced Care Practitioners, hospital and retail Pharmacists who want to learn about skin disease causation along with associated risk factors and co-morbidities.
Assessment:
1. Essay: pathophysiology of a common long term skin condition - 60%.
2. Case based presentation: (long-term skin condition) – 40%.
