Course overview
This module is an optional specialist module for the MSc Skin Integrity & Wound Management.
This innovative module enables clinicians to consolidate and develop specialist skills in professional, contemporary wound management and dermatology practice. It will enable students to analyse concepts of advanced practice in relation to their own clinical setting. The key taught component will be delivered at a National Wound Management Conference using key sessions from the conference scientific programme supplemented by a combination of lectures / discussions and blended online learning activities. This is a good opportunity to network with a multidisciplinary range of wound care clinicians from different practice settings & update knowledge of the latest wound treatments in a comprehensive trade exhibition.
This module supports a range of practice development initiatives that will raise awareness of the importance of maintaining skin integrity in vulnerable patients.
Dates: March 31st, 2026, 13.30 - 15.00 plus attendance at the Society Tissue Viability (SoTV) Conference 22nd and 23rd April 2026 at the LIFE Conference Centre, Bradford.

Students will study a selection of topics such as:
- Burden of chronic wounds
- National/International guidelines, pathways & targets
- Evidence based practice
- Patient centred management
- Barriers to healing, clinical, organisation, educational, professional
- Advances in therapeutic interventions and technologies.
- International models of service delivery/ development: resource management, quality improvement
- Team working, professional hierarchies
- Development of specialist practice
Study Route:
This optional module is offered on the MSc Skin Integrity & Wound Management programme. It will be of interest to FY1-2, GPs, Specialist Nurses, Advanced Care Practitioners, Podiatrists, Pharmacists & clinical advisors in industry with an interest in wound care and skin conditions.
This module provides the opportunity to attend a national wound care conference in Spring 2026 and is a good opportunity to network with skin care clinicians and update knowledge of the latest diagnostics & treatments in a dynamic interactive environment.
Assessment:
Retrospective patient analysis: critically reviewing barriers to healing in a patient with compromised skin integrity. 100% Coursework.
Cost: £1,830 per 30 credit module for Home students commencing in academic year 2025/26. Modular fees remain at a fixed price for the duration of your studies based on year of commencement.
Students will be eligible for reduced conference registration if apply early but may have to cover own travel/accommodation costs.
